Sculpture Triangle and Leeds Galleries Educational Visit

Monday 1st April - 2nd April 2019

The Leeds trip was two days long, and we managed to cover a few galleries as well as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. It was a very relaxed trip that withheld a variety of sculptures and paintings. My highlight was the Giuseppe Penone's exhibition primarily because of the curatorial detail in the display. There were three rooms and the walls that separate them all had an opening that you could walk through. Two pine trees were stripped and hollowed placed in the middle of the 3 rooms, while on the back wall, there was a drawing of tree rings that started off on a canvas and progressed to fill the whole wall. To break down the elements of a tree then re-aligning them to create an artistic tree was just ingenious! I would like to consider paying close attention to detail like this in the future when it comes to curating a space.

I also loved being immerse in the Chapel, work by Chiharu Shiota as it was just incredible. It allowed the audience to interact with the work and due to the vast space, the humming recording from the speakers, produced a howling sound. This created a very relaxing environment. It also made me wish I could perform in that space, as it just seemed like the perfect place.
